Yerevan is located in the north-east edge of Ararat Valley and surrounded by mountains. The Armenian Capital city has amazing view to Biblical Holly Mount Ararat, where the Noah’s Ark landed after the Great Flood. Altitude of Yerevan from sea level is about 1000 meter (3,250 ft). Yerevan area is about 227 sq. km.
Yerevan Climate
Yeravan has semi-arid, continental climate. Some days in summer the temperature may reach 40C (104 F), but since the climate is dry, people afford it. Winters are different every year. It can be cold, freezing and snowy in January, February, temperature about (-7C), sometime colder, but can be relatively worm without freezing snow (about +5C during the day time).
Yerevan Main Streets, Squares and Parks
Yerevan main streets in downtown are: Mashtots avenue, Abovyan, Sayat-Nova, Toumanyan, Amiryan, Nalbandyan, Teryan, Moskovyan, Saryan, Hanrapetutyan, Khanjyan, Alex Manoukian, Isahakyan, Arami, Khorenatsu, Zakyan streets and others.
Main squares in central Yerevan are: Hanrapetutyan (Republic), Azatutyan (Freedom) or Opera, Charles Aznavour and Andery Sakharov, France and others.
Yerevan main parks and green areas are: Armenia Victory Park, where the monument of Mother Armenia is placed, Tsitsernakaberd (where the Armenian Genocide Museum and Memorial is situated), Yerevan Youth (Circular) Park, Yerevan English Park, where Gabriel Sundukyan Mother Theater, the Italian and French Embassies are located, Yerevan Shahumyan Park for kids, Yerevan Lovers’ Park near the Armenian Parliament and the Office of President of Armenia, Yerevan Komitas Park, Yerevan Zoo which hosts lions, bears, camels, elephants, eagles, 270 other animals, etc.
Museums
Yerevan is very rich with museums. It is strongly recommended to visit the Armenian National Gallery and the Museum of History of Armenia, Aram Khachatryan Museum, Saryan Museum, Armenian Genocide Museum and Memorial, Gafesjian Center and other museums of Yerevan.
Yerevan Shopping Centers and Areas
If you are looking for Armenian souvenirs you can go to Yerevan Vernisage -- an open air market near the Republic Square and Ranrapetutyan Metro station - Saturday, Sunday. You can find Armenian souvenirs also on Abovian street and other places. Brand name shops are spread in central Yerevan, practically on each main street. For cheap, not brand name products you can go so called “yarmarkas” near the Hrazdan stadium, “Firdusi” open market near the Republic Square, “Malatia” open market etc, or you can just find some average level shops on the streets. For food you can easily find lot of groceries around.
